Richard Cary Spivack

Richard Spivack I am the Co-Vice President of the Ritual Committee and the Gabbai Rishon of the Congregation. You may have seen me hurry by in my white kittle and yarmulke on the high holidays. Born in Flatbush, I moved to Glen Oaks at five, and was schooled at the Talmud Torah of the Young Israel of New Hyde Park, under Rabbi Meyer Bilitzky.

I attended P.S. 186, JHS 172, and graduated Martin Van Buren High School, before attending Queens College and St. John's University Law School.

Harriet, my wife of almost thirty years was born in the Bronx and raised in Bayside. We were married while I was in Law School. Our children, Julia and Michael were born while we lived in Holliswood.

We moved in Douglaston in 1993, and began to attend Little Neck Jewish Center where we enrolled Michael in Religious School.

After, the death of my father, Eugene in 1998, I began to take an active role in the ritual life of the Synagogue, encouraged by Cantor Raber and Larry Kaplan.

Harriet is an Art teacher in Roslyn. My daughter, Julia, is awaiting admission to the New York and New Jersey Pars and my son, Michael, is a Junior at SUNY Purchase, studying Studio Engineering. I practice Law in Forest Hills.

In my spare time, I like to roller-skate, play softball, cook and enjoy living in New York City.

I hope that many of you will join us in our ritual activities, including our Sunday, Monday, and Thursday morning services, and our Mincha Shabbos service.

I also hope that you will attend the Annual Journal Dinner Dance at which I will receive the "Larry Kaplan Award". Please purchase or sell a Journal advertisement, to help finance the worthy endeavors of our congregation.
